A postcard from Metzger's Bowling Alley. Postmarked 1908.
The Metzger Bowling alley was built in the 1800's by Fred Metzger who
was married to Mary Metzger.
It was located across from the now existing Yulan Firehouse on Airport
Road..
The upstairs of the building was a dance hall, and downstairs was the
bowling alley. Harry Miller would come up for the summer and play in a
band at the dance hall.
To the far right of the building was a bar. Eventually, the state made
them close down the dance hall. Fred Metzger turned it into the Hillside
Inn.Eventually it was sold to Winsch(not sure of the spelling) & Schmidt.
Alcohol was being serverd during prohibition times.
Approx. in 1941, there was a skating rink.
In 1947, Alfred & Helen Wolff, Walter Metzger's cousins, bought and
ran the Hillside Inn as a resturant.
After Alfred Wolff passed away, his widow sold the Hillside Inn to another
party and it burned down later on
The House to the right was built by Fred Metzger in the 1800's.
Walter Metzger was born here.
The house is still there today.
