An undated postcard Hillside Inn. Caption on back reads:
Dinners and Lunches. Choice wines, liquors and beers. Tourists
and vacationists accommodated by day or week. Alfred H. Wolff. Prop. Phone:
Barryville, NY 2749
The Hillside Inn was formerly Metzgers Dance Hall and Bowling Alley.
It was located across from the now existing Yulan Firehouse.
To the far right of the building was a bar. Eventually, the state made
them close down the dance hall. Fred Metzger turned it into the Hillside
Inn. Eventually it was sold to Winsch(not sure of the spelling) &
Schmidt.
Alcohol was being serverd during prohibition times.
Approx. in 1941, there was a skating rink.
In 1947, Alfred & Helen Wolff, Walter Metzger's cousins, bought and
ran the Hillside Inn as a resturant.
After Alfred Wolff passed away, his widow sold the Hillside Inn to another
party and it burned down later.
