The Colonial
The Colonial was a boarding house built in the 1800's by Joseph Tether. Joseph Tether had married Miss Bradley from Bradley's Boarding house also on Washington Lake in Yulan. Sirus Walter bought the Colonial from Joesph Tether and was then sold to Jacob Hensel. The Colonial is still there today. The boarding house section is not used anymore but a section was turned into a fine restaurant open Fri Sat &Sun 5pm. (from interview with Larry Woods) Mrs. Hensel used to go the the Washington Lake Casino with her guests and "raise hell". She loved to dance. Everyone loved to work for the Hensels.
